We’re T&L Moling Contractors, WIAPS-registered specialists in trenchless water supply pipe replacement across Horsham and the surrounding RH12 and RH13 postcodes, including Roffey, Littlehaven, Holbrook and North Heath. The town has roughly 4,000 Victorian terraced houses, and many were originally plumbed with lead supply pipes still in the ground today.

Horsham is a Victorian terrace town first and foremost. After the railway arrived in 1848 the town expanded quickly, and around 4,017 terraced and townhouse properties (roughly 19% of its homes) went up north of Brighton Road and around the station, the majority of them in the Victorian era. Streets through the town centre, Carfax and Causeway, out towards Roffey, Littlehaven and Trafalgar, are dominated by 19th-century housing, while later suburbs like Holbrook are largely 20th-century. The lead supply pipes from that period are still in place under a lot of front paths, and that is the work our trenchless method is built around.
The approach on a Horsham terrace is shaped by the housing: narrow front gardens, period boundary walls, often a bay window directly over where the supply pipe enters. We dig two small access pits, drive an impact mole through the ground between them, and pull a new MDPE pipe in behind it. Your tiled path, lawn and frontage stay intact. Most residential jobs are completed in a single day.

Paul was great. Fitted me in last minute. Really professional and personable. Very good price and very efficient. All done in 5 hours. Nothing was too much hassle even when I changed my mind for the stop cock location after the pipe was already run. They also ran a temporary connection back to the current mains water location under the stairs as this will be relocated by my plumber at a later date to the new stop cock location. They even left my front garden tidier than when they started :) Would recommend highly. I received my certificate of install the same day and they can connect directly to the water meter as they are WIAPS approved so no need to wait for thames water final connections.+12Posted on Google![]()

We had an external lead water pipe that needed replacing, found this company via Google search and they got back to our web form submission super quickly to agree on a quote and timing. Arrived on time, completed the repairs, put everything back in place (patio tiles etc) meticulously once the works were completed and provided the works certificate promptly. Thanks again to the team at T&L.Posted on Google![]()

Minimal mess & no trenches

Trenchless moling is a no-dig way of replacing a buried water supply pipe, and it suits Horsham particularly well because of the terraced housing layout and the Weald Clay underneath. The Low Weald’s heavy, poorly draining mudstone makes open trenching slow and messy, and around Tower Hill the sandstone ridge of Horsham Stone is harder still to dig through. With moling we excavate two small pits (one near the boundary stop tap at the pavement, one near the property where the pipe enters), then drive an impact mole between them along the existing pipe route. A new MDPE supply pipe is pulled in behind the mole, fitted internally with a stop valve, double check valve and drain-off point. The old lead pipe is disconnected at both ends and left in the ground. On a Weald Clay site, leaving the ground between the pits undisturbed is a real advantage over an open trench.

Horsham has some of the hardest water in our coverage area, running very hard at around 240 to 280 ppm through Southern Water’s Sussex North supply. Hardness aside, the lead in tap water comes from the pipe itself, dissolving into water that has sat overnight in an old lead supply line. With somewhere around 4,000 Victorian and Edwardian terraces in the town, many still on their original lead, Horsham has a lot of those pipes still in daily use.
Most Horsham homeowners get in touch after one of these:
Replacing the lead supply pipe with MDPE via trenchless moling is the standard fix, and on a typical Horsham Victorian terrace it is a single-day job that leaves the period frontage intact.
