About Us

Fleet has an unusually split housing profile, and that shapes the lead pipe work we do here. Much of the older core is late-Victorian and Edwardian, laid out in a grid from the 1880s once the railway opened up what had been bare heathland, giving the red-brick terraces and villas you still see near Aldershot Road and Pondtail. Around that sit inter-war and post-war semis, and then two large modern phases: Elvetham Heath, completed around 2008, and Crookham Park on the former Queen Elizabeth Barracks site in Church Crookham. The original metal supply pipes under the Victorian and inter-war stock are the ones now reaching the end of their service life.

Wherever you are in Fleet, our method is the same. We dig two small pits, one near the boundary stop tap and one where the pipe enters the property, then drive a mole between them and pull a new MDPE supply pipe through behind it. Your driveway, lawn, patio and paving stay intact, and most homes are completed in a single day.

Paul was great. Fitted me in last minute. Really professional and personable. Very good price and very efficient. All done in 5 hours. Nothing was too much hassle even when I changed my mind for the stop cock location after the pipe was already run. They also ran a temporary connection back to the current mains water location under the stairs as this will be relocated by my plumber at a later date to the new stop cock location. They even left my front garden tidier than when they started :) Would recommend highly. I received my certificate of install the same day and they can connect directly to the water meter as they are WIAPS approved so no need to wait for thames water final connections.

Highly experienced and friendly company, a pleasure to deal with. We had an external lead water pipe that needed replacing, found this company via Google search and they got back to our web form submission super quickly to agree on a quote and timing. Arrived on time, completed the repairs, put everything back in place (patio tiles etc) meticulously once the works were completed and provided the works certificate promptly. Thanks again to the team at T&L.

What is Moling?

Moling is a no-dig way of installing a new water supply pipe along the route of an old one, and Fleet’s ground makes it a sensible default. The town sits on the Bagshot Formation, the sandy, free-draining Camberley Sands of old heathland, but the local water table is kept high by Fleet Pond, the Basingstoke Canal and the surrounding wet heath, so an open trench can quickly turn into a waterlogged, slow-to-reinstate job. With moling we avoid that entirely: we excavate two small access pits, one near the boundary stopcock and one at the property, then drive an impact mole through the ground between them and pull a new MDPE pipe in behind it. The old lead pipe is disconnected at both ends and left in the ground. The route in between, whether it runs under a Pondtail front garden or an Elvetham Heath driveway, is left exactly as it was.

Why Replace Lead Pipes?

Fleet is supplied by South East Water, and the water here runs hard. Postcode-level figures put GU51 at roughly 308 ppm and GU52 at roughly 307 ppm as calcium carbonate, well inside South East Water’s own “hard” classification and consistent with the chalk aquifers much of the supply is drawn from. The lead in tap water comes from the old pipe itself, dissolving into water that has been standing in an ageing lead supply line overnight, regardless of how hard the supply is. With Fleet’s stock of Victorian, Edwardian and inter-war homes still on original supply lines, there are a lot of those pipes still in service.

Most Fleet homeowners get in touch after one of these:

  • A failed lead test or a flag from their plumber
  • A letter from South East Water about lead in the supply
  • Discoloured or metallic-tasting tap water
  • Noticeably low water pressure compared to neighbours
  • A solicitor or surveyor raising it during a property sale

Replacing the lead supply pipe with MDPE via moling is the standard fix, and on most Fleet properties it’s a single-day job that leaves your surfaces as we found them.
