What is Moling?
Moling is a trenchless way of installing a new water supply pipe along the route of an old one, and in Farnham it is often the only sensible option. The town’s complex ground, river-terrace gravels under the centre, Gault Clay and Upper Greensand beneath, with Bargate sandstone and malmstone rising to the south, makes open trenching slow and unpredictable, and that is before you reach the period paths, boundary walls and listed frontages that surround so many homes here. Rather than cut a trench across the surface, we excavate two small pits, drive an impact mole through the soil between them, and draw a new MDPE supply pipe in behind it. The old lead pipe is disconnected at both ends and left in the ground. Everything between the two pits is undisturbed, which on a conservation-area property near Castle Street or in Wrecclesham can be the difference between a clean one-day job and a slow dig that needs design review.
Why Replace Lead Pipes?
