We’re T&L Moling Contractors, WIAPS-registered specialists in trenchless water supply pipe replacement across Croydon and the CR0 to CR2 postcodes. From the Victorian villas of Addiscombe to the 1930s semis of Shirley and Selsdon, much of Croydon still runs on the original lead and galvanised pipes laid when those streets were built.

Croydon is a South London metropolitan centre with a housing story that moves outward through the decades, and that shapes the work we do here. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas closer to the centre, around Addiscombe, Selhurst and Waddon, give way to the interwar semi-detached suburbia of Shirley, Selsdon and Sanderstead. That whole band of stock is exactly the age where original lead and galvanised supply pipes are still in the ground. We’ve carried out lead pipe replacement and water main replacement on Croydon properties, swapping tired metal supplies for modern MDPE, and we cover the surrounding areas too, including South Croydon, Purley and Coulsdon.
However old or new your property, the method is the same. We dig two small access pits, one near the boundary stop tap and one at the house, then drive a mole through the ground between them and pull a new MDPE pipe along behind it. Your driveway, lawn, patio and paving stay intact, and most domestic jobs are wrapped up in a single day with minimal surface disruption.

Paul was great. Fitted me in last minute. Really professional and personable. Very good price and very efficient. All done in 5 hours. Nothing was too much hassle even when I changed my mind for the stop cock location after the pipe was already run. They also ran a temporary connection back to the current mains water location under the stairs as this will be relocated by my plumber at a later date to the new stop cock location. They even left my front garden tidier than when they started :) Would recommend highly. I received my certificate of install the same day and they can connect directly to the water meter as they are WIAPS approved so no need to wait for thames water final connections.+12Posted on Google![]()

Highly experienced and friendly company, a pleasure to deal with. We had an external lead water pipe that needed replacing, found this company via Google search and they got back to our web form submission super quickly to agree on a quote and timing. Arrived on time, completed the repairs, put everything back in place (patio tiles etc) meticulously once the works were completed and provided the works certificate promptly. Thanks again to the team at T&L.Posted on Google![]()

Croydon sits on the northern dip slope of the North Downs, with porous chalk underlying the higher ground to the south around Sanderstead and Selsdon, giving way to heavier clay and gravels in the lower northern wards near Thornton Heath and the Wandle valley. That variable ground, combined with the borough’s mature front gardens and period paving, is why trenchless moling makes more sense here than open trenching. Moling is a no-dig way of installing a new water supply pipe along the route of an old one. We excavate two small pits, one near the boundary stopcock and one where the pipe enters the property, then drive an impact mole through the soil between them and pull a new MDPE pipe in behind it. The old lead pipe is disconnected at both ends and left in the ground. The route in between stays untouched, which matters across Croydon’s 21 conservation areas and listed-building streets, where protected frontages and mature gardens would be costly to reinstate after a trench.

Most of Croydon is supplied by Thames Water, with SES Water serving the southern fringe around Sanderstead and parts of South Croydon. Whichever side of that boundary you sit on, the water is hard to very hard: around 292 ppm in CR0 and 294 ppm in CR2, rising into the very hard band closer to the centre. That hardness comes from the chalk and limestone groundwater of the North Downs.
The lead in tap water comes from the old pipe itself, dissolving into water that has been sitting overnight in an ageing lead or galvanised line. Combine that with Croydon’s late-Victorian to interwar housing stock and you have a lot of those original lines still in daily use. Most Croydon homeowners get in touch after one of these:
