We’re T&L Moling Contractors, WIAPS-registered specialists in trenchless water supply pipe replacement across Chertsey and the KT16 postcode. The town sits on the Thames floodplain, on gravelly ground with a naturally high water table, which is precisely where open trenching turns into a wet, slow job.
From the Georgian terraces around Windsor Street to the post-war homes at Penton Park, a lot of Chertsey property still runs on original lead.

Chertsey is a riverside town with a long history and a mixed housing stock to match. The historic core around Windsor Street, London Street and Guildford Street is dominated by Georgian-refronted terraces and Victorian villas, much of it inside the Chertsey Conservation Area, while later expansion spread out through St Ann’s Hill, Abbey Mead and the 20th-century estates at Penton Park. Many of these older properties were first plumbed with lead supply pipes that are still in the ground today. Chertsey is well within our working area: we cover Surrey extensively and regularly work in nearby Weybridge, Woking and Guildford, so we know the ground conditions across this part of the county.
Whichever part of town you’re in, the method is the same. We dig two small pits, one near the boundary stop tap and one where the pipe enters the house, drive a mole between them and pull a new MDPE pipe through behind it. Your driveway, lawn, patio and paths stay intact, and most Chertsey jobs are finished in a single day.

Paul was great. Fitted me in last minute. Really professional and personable. Very good price and very efficient. All done in 5 hours. Nothing was too much hassle even when I changed my mind for the stop cock location after the pipe was already run. They also ran a temporary connection back to the current mains water location under the stairs as this will be relocated by my plumber at a later date to the new stop cock location. They even left my front garden tidier than when they started :) Would recommend highly. I received my certificate of install the same day and they can connect directly to the water meter as they are WIAPS approved so no need to wait for thames water final connections.+12Posted on Google![]()

Highly experienced and friendly company, a pleasure to deal with. We had an external lead water pipe that needed replacing, found this company via Google search and they got back to our web form submission super quickly to agree on a quote and timing. Arrived on time, completed the repairs, put everything back in place (patio tiles etc) meticulously once the works were completed and provided the works certificate promptly. Thanks again to the team at T&L.Posted on Google![]()

Moling is a no-dig way of installing a new water supply pipe along the route of an old one, and on Chertsey’s geology it makes particular sense. Much of the built-up area sits on river terrace gravels and Bagshot sand over London Clay, with a high water table close to the Thames, so an open trench across a front garden tends to fill with water and produce a lot of spoil. With moling we avoid almost all of that. We excavate two small access pits, one near the boundary stopcock and one near the property, then drive an impact mole through the ground between them and pull a new MDPE supply pipe in behind it. The old lead pipe is disconnected at both ends and left buried. The ground in between, whether that’s a gravel drive, a lawn or paving, is never opened up, which on this kind of free-draining floodplain ground is a real advantage over digging a trench.

Chertsey’s mains water is supplied by Affinity Water, not Thames Water, which handles wastewater locally. The supply runs hard, at roughly 290 ppm as calcium carbonate, which Affinity Water classes as hard to very hard across its Surrey region. What actually puts lead in your tap water is the old pipe itself, with lead dissolving into water that has stood overnight in an ageing lead supply line.
Add Chertsey’s older Georgian and Victorian housing, much of it still on original lead, and there are plenty of those pipes still in service. Most homeowners here get in touch after one of the following:
